Does anyone else feel like all they do is spend money on their classroom? I cringe when preparing my taxes for the accountant and I have to see an actual number. In fact, one year when reviewing my file the accountant commented, “Surely this number can’t be correct…”. Folks in other professions just don’t understand the expense of running a classroom.
Does your district support teachers with an allowance or reimbursement?
Mine does, although it is very minimal per school year and at the beginning of the year. We are also only allowed to spend the money on certain money and on certain things. So, needless to say, all the times I purchase items from Dollar Tree it is on my own dime. One of the ways I have cut down on expenses is by handing out Homework Passes as student gifts. I have Homework Passes for 3 holidays, for a quick gift, non-sugar treat, or pinching pennies, I have them on hand.

Save $$$ with the Bundle! Quite honestly, my students are just as tickled with them as they would be had I bought them something.
You can check out these resources in my store on my SHOP page. Don’t get me wrong, I spend a lot of time in my classroom and I want to be in a nice space, so I don’t begrudge spending the money (unless I’m adding up receipts…). It’s difficult finding a balance, wanting to create a comfortable space to work in and not making the big $$$, believe me, I get it.
Homework Passes are just one way to save a bit of money throughout the year. Do you have money-saving tips? I would love to hear them, post them in the comments below.
Enjoy!
