Ted Talks That Inspire Educators

December 29, 2018 by Bonnie Hannigan Leave a Comment

Ted Talks Pin ImageI love to listen/watch Ted Talks.  In this post, I have included links to a few of my favorite.  Ted Talks inspire me, motivate me, and help to relight the fire that drives me whenever I am feeling defeated.

Here are a few of my all-time faves –

Rita Pearson, “Every Kid Needs A Champion” A rousing call to educators to believe in their students and actually connect with them on a real, human, personal level.  I love this lady so much, she makes me laugh and feel all warm inside.  I cannot even imagine the number of lives this woman touched with her fabulous attitude.
Just listening to Rita makes me want to be a better person.

Alvin Irby, “How To Inspire Every Child To Be A Reader” In a talk that will make you rethink how we teach.  Alvin Irby created Barber Shop Books, a non-profit that connects reading to a male-centered space.  What an inspirational man!

Gene Luen Yang “Comics belong in the classroom” Comic books and graphic novels belong in every teacher’s toolkit, says cartoonist and educator Yang.  A high school teacher and cartoonist explores the educational potential of comics.

Diana Laufenberg “How to learn from mistakes” Laufenberg shares three surprising things she has learned about teaching — including a key insight about learning from mistakes.
“Letting go of paradigms of the past…” letting kids fail as part of the learning process. Amen.

Christopher Emdin “Teach teachers how to create magic”  Offering a vision to make the classroom come alive, I love what Christopher Emdin has to say to teachers.

There is a Ted Conferences app that you can download to your IOS device to take these fabulous speakers with you and listen anywhere.

Enjoy!
